Encoffining Designs.

Rules for encoffining persons who have died from infectious disease. Persons who have died of infectious disease may be encoffined in their house under the following conditions:-

1. Notice must be given to the officer in charge of the disinfecting station and he must be asked to send the coolies.

2. Those coolies and no other person must do the encoffining, handling the body and placing the coffin-nails(?) and Nga-fui(?) in the coffins.

3. The encoffining must not take place sooner than one hour after notice has been given at the Disinfecting Station.

4. In case of death occurring after office hours the officer in charge of the disinfecting station should be notified at once. One hour after the notice has been given the coolies may put the body in the coffin but the coffin must not be fastened up or the body removed before 8 a.m. next morning.

5. The coffins must be substantial; the class of coffin approved costs $6.50.

6. The inspector will be given an opportunity of seeing the coffin for infectious diseases and he will decide whether they are substantial enough or not.

7. The inspector will occasionally have to be present at the encoffining and will be given every facility and assistance.

8. For a permit to bury, the clerk of the Tung Wah Hospital must apply without delay to the Assistant Medical Officer of Health.

9. On Sundays and holidays applications for permits to bury must be made to the Officer in Charge of the Disinfecting Station.
